People On Bikes in Nova Scotia,
Canada
The best of Nova Scotia - combining the Light House Route with the Evangeline Trail. Enjoy the rugged beauty of Peggy’s Cove and Cape Split, and participate in the warmth and hospitality of Lunenburg and Wolfville. The tour begins in Halifax and includes some of the local sights. If you come early, you will be able see the Citadel, tour the Pier and learn about the explosion and the impact of the Titanic. And, if you are interested in some sea kayaking before the cycling begins, we will arrange a full morning of kayaking along the Atlantic coast. To make that work, we know that you will have to come in the day before, so we have arranged a great deal. Sea kayaking, breakfast and an additional night of accommodation for only $175 (double occupancy).
Our tour will start on a Saturday and will end the following Sunday. Riding starts on Day 2 to allow the group to get to know each other before we hit the roads. People On Bikes is now offering this outstanding tour for only $2,175 USD inclusive of all hotels and breakfasts, 4 group dinners and at least 4 lunches.
People On Bikes has created a very unique tour. You will be able to ride both the Atlantic coast and the Bay of Fundy. We have connected these two typically separate routes with a fabulous ride through famous Kejimkujik National Park as we cross the province of Nova Scotia. Here is the itinerary in more detail. I look forward to riding with you on this trip.
Day 1 - We will pick you up at the Halifax Airport and bring you to our hotel in downtown Halifax. On your arrival day, we will take a tour of the famous Alexander Keith’s Brewery and celebrate our arrival with a group dinner. After dinner, we will tour downtown Halifax with a twist. Learn about the haunted and the cursed as we take a “ghost walk” that evening.
Day 2 - Riding along the Atlantic coast, we will wind our way to Peggy’s Cove, and then around to the top of St. Margaret’s Bay, home of the warmest salt water on the South Shore. We can walk along the white sand beach and in the evening, kick up our heals at the Shore Club.
Day 3 - Our ride will continue along the coast and take us to Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is the quintessential maritime fishing village and is immaculately maintained. Tonight, we will gather for a group dinner.
Day 4 - Layover day in Lunenburg. Today we will have an optional ride to visit some small villages on the coast - Blue Rocks, Stonehurst, and Hirtle’s Beach with a picnic along the way. For those that choose not to ride, there is much to explore in Lunenburg. In the afternoon, we will provide a sailing tour of Lunenburg harbour to allow you to take in the full beauty of the historic waterfront. If the scheduling works out, our sail will occur on the world famous Bluenose II assuming that it will be in Lunenburg when we are - this is the best way to capture the spirit of Canada’s maritimes.
Day 5 - Today, we cross the province by riding through beautiful Kejimkujik National Park. Our ride will begin with a transfer inland, and then we will ride through old forest and rolling hills towards the Bay of Fundy and Annapolis Royal, where we will stay for the evening. An optional extra ride is available today for those that want additional challenge. That night, we will dine in an exceptional local restaurant and get a chance to review the “odd bins” wine list of the proprietor.
Day 6 - From Annapolis Royal, via historic Port Royal, to Digby, we will ride a circuitous route along the coast through a number of small fishing villages. We’ll be on the lookout for a fabulous local lobster dinner or lunch - it really is a “must do” in Nova Scotia.
Day 7 - Riding through the beautiful Annapolis Valley, we will travel to Wolfville, a picturesque university town, complete with tree lined streets and beautiful heritage homes. It is a scenic ride that will make up our last scheduled day on the bike.
Day 8 - On our layover day in Wolfville, we will organize an optional hiking trip to Cape Split where we will have a picnic and get a spectacular view of the highest tides in the world. For those that still want more riding, there are some excellent rides in the area as well. Our day will end with a farewell dinner and toast with local wines and an excellent dinner in nearby Grand Pre.
Day 9 - We’ll help you make your way back to the Halifax Airport for your return journey or point you in the direction of the next leg of your adventure.
This trip captures the essence of central Nova Scotia and will take you to spectacular places and sights. It really is a “must see” trip and we look forward to hosting you on this outstanding vacation. As scheduled, this itinerary runs from Saturday and can end either on the following Saturday or Sunday. For those that wish to arrive a day early (on the Friday evening), we will arrange a morning of sea kayaking along the Atlantic coast.
